/ The job

How it came together.

The brief: open up a tired rear kitchen and create a proper single-storey wrap-around — kitchen, dining and utility — without losing the character of the original 1930s brick semi.

We started by stripping the old lean-to back to the brickwork, digging and pouring deep-fill foundations, and routing new drainage runs along the boundary.

Once the blockwork shell was up to DPC, we set the structural steels for the long rear opening, brought the outer skin up in brick to match the existing house, and scaffolded for the roof.

The job finishes with a fully bonded GRP flat roof — three upstands ready for rooflights — handed back watertight and ready for the second-fix trades.
